Happy Easter and welcome back to Term 2. I hope the children had a great holiday and that you all enjoyed quality family time together over this Easter period.
Michael is on Long Service Leave this week and returns on Monday 29 April. He and his wife travelled to Sri Lanka, convinced it was to be a beautiful experience of another culture. We received the following message from him after the Easter Sunday bombings.
‘I’m not sure to what extent the bomb blasts in Sri Lanka are being reported in Australia but I just wanted to let you know Marlyn & I are OK, we are in Galle so we are some way from where today’s events occurred. That being said we were actually at Easter Sunday Mass at St Mary’s Cathedral in Galle when the Bishop announced to the congregation of the bombings, causing some distress for those gathered. I do not think I have ever been as nervous as I sat through the rest of Mass. We are safe! We know of every hotel targeted, as they were across the road from where we stayed when we were in Colombo. It has shaken up the whole place, especially the Sri Lankan people.
We will take a little more care and be a little less comfortable but it is a lovely country with beautiful people and it is them I feel for. Please pray for the people of Sri Lanka.'
The building program continues to gain momentum moving out of the demolition stage to the roughing in and building stage. Over the next 6 months Reliance Constructions working with architects, Baldasso Cortese, will continuing working on our new Administration and Staff area as well as 6 new Contemporary Learning Areas made possible by funding from the Victorian Government’s Capital Funding Program along with our own local contribution. The first stage will involve the area that was once the Library, Technology Lab and Teacher Planning areas. The entrance to the builder’s compound is Greaves Street North, opposite the church. The gate will remain operational with temporary fencing separating the building area. Please be aware that parking is affected, as builders cars will be parked in some of the spaces.
As part of Construction Stage 1B - one of the large Peppercorn Trees, in the junior yard, will be cut down.
It will be removed on Friday 3 May. This is a School Closure Staff PD Day – no students.
