Welcome to Term 4. I hope the children had an opportunity to rest and prepare for the final term of the year.
We welcome Glenn Mugavin back to the school after his Long Service Leave. Glenn’s role in the school this term will be to support Catholic Identity as well as supporting other programs in the school by releasing teachers where needed.
During the Term 3 holidays St Andrew’s staff, Chloe Boland, Lisa Black, Daniel Cook, Nicole Sciberras and Beth Henry, participated in the 2019 Study Tour to work with Dr George Otero in Santa Fe, New Mexico with other teachers from the St Andrew’s Parish Schools. The focus of this tour is centred on Relational Learning and Community Engagement, areas that George Otero has international recognition. We look forward to the school benefiting from their participation.
The Parent’s Association will meet next Monday evening at 7.00pm. This will be the first meeting of the association since the new structure was implemented and will be chaired by new leader, Catherine Wiseman. Items for discussion at this meeting will be to finalise the 2020 social, fundraising & parent voice calendar. We expect meetings will be finished no later than 8.30pm. All parents are welcome to attend.
I would like to inform the school community of an exciting opportunity offered to Miss Kietner and the St Andrew’s Choir. Our Choir is invited to sing at the Archdiocesan Principals Celebration Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral on Wednesday 30 October. This is an exciting opportunity for St Andrew’s School and in particular, our students, to receive positive exposure to principals from across the archdiocese.
We wish them the very best.
During Term 4 we transition from winter uniform to summer uniform. The summer uniform phase in period is from the start of Term 4 to the first day of summer. During this phase-in period, students may wear either summer or winter uniform and by first day of summer they will be expected to be in their summer uniform.
2020 Class Groupings
Students do not usually go up as a total class into the next year level. Classes are re-grouped each year and students are mixed taking into account a distribution of gender, academic ability, individual social, emotional and behavioural needs and students who would benefit by being kept together or separated. Students from the same family will generally not be placed in the same class, however upon specific request from parents, this will be considered. I invite parents to contact me via email with specific considerations on the understanding the final decision remains with the school.
School Choir News
Some exciting news for St Andrew’s !!!
Our school has been asked to provide a choir at a Principals Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral in the heart of Melbourne on Wednesday 30 October at 5pm.
It is an honour and a privilege bestowed upon our school to prepare and sing at the Cathedral for such an occasion and the children in our school choir have began the preparations. 44 children from Years 3-6 have excitedly joined together to learn songs that the Catholic Education Office have asked us to prepare. We have had some help from one of the Catholic Education Office Liturgical Formation Team members who have popped in to listen to our choir to ensure we are on track. The feedback is, we are doing very well. Congratulations Choir!
We will continue our work in preparing for this momentous occasion and keep you posted with our journey in being the first Werribee Catholic Primary School to sing at St Patrick’s Cathedral.
